So I ordered one of these and they are quite nice. Same weight grid fleece patagonia uses (just like polartec makes). Black and Beige available.
I'm going to modify it to make it a little more all-purpose, but definitely a steal at under $7.No affiliation.
XXXXXXXX ebay reference deleted. (Sorry Roger, I didn't realize this rule applied to "Gear Deals" section)
Anyone interested just type (or copy/paste) "Gen 3 Level 2 Balaclava" into google or your preferred search engine.
Feb 26, 2013 at 1:39 pm #1958965(cupping my hands to shout) WHERE DID YOU GET IT? :)
Feb 26, 2013 at 1:51 pm #1958970Dan, thanks for posting this.
But you need to stop posting stuff that I think I need to buy, I have more stuff than I can use in 2 life times.
Feb 26, 2013 at 1:53 pm #1958972Buy the balaclava and wear it backwards when surfing gear deals. Works like a charm ;)
It is a one size fits most, which is generally a big fib when considering my XXL noggin size.
The miltary gridded Polartec stuff is a great buy. The tops can be a super bargain.
Feb 26, 2013 at 2:18 pm #1958978I'm freaking powerless to these kind of things. (click add to cart)
Feb 26, 2013 at 2:30 pm #1958983I suffer just as much as the next. Im sorry for fueling our addictions! Haha.
Now that youve pulled the trigger on a balaclava…..type "gen iii level 2" into ebay…
Sorry in advance.Feb 26, 2013 at 2:37 pm #1958987Indeed!
Dale's rules of acquisition:
*Don't create another garage sale
*Imagine what you will look like wearing it (aka, The Sunday Afternoon Hat Principle)
*Exact duplicates are not allowed (TP and fuel excepted)
*Similar designs with the same purpose are not allowed
*Let it be a really cool thing — in the other guy's basement
*If all the above fail, one item must go for every new one purchased
Feb 26, 2013 at 3:13 pm #1959006sigh +1. but couldn't pass this up.
Feb 26, 2013 at 3:40 pm #1959012Ah, look at you weak-willed fools. I'd stay to mock you more, but I've gotta go order a tarp I've been wanting.
Feb 26, 2013 at 4:42 pm #1959035Got one too!
Feb 26, 2013 at 4:47 pm #1959037let's see … just last week I packed away three fleece balaclavas (and numerous other fleeces) that I'd treated with nikwax polar proof.
Why am I feeling fleeced?
We're trying to enforce a rule that nothing enters the house unless material of equal or greater volume leaves (food excepted). Let's see, what do I have of volume similar to the carbon fiber pole set that arrived today? Oops, I did it again!
I suggest that we have a virtual twelve step meetup at 00:00:00 UTC on April 1 (every year) and say in unison … "Hello, my name is _________ and I am a gearhead!"
Feb 26, 2013 at 5:39 pm #1959056If you are going to get a ridiculously good deal you should purchase two. Just in case you end up not using it a friend to keep the other company is the right thing to do. 2 purchased sigh……

Me too! That's how I ended up with my puppy. I do miss the wife sometimes, though…..
Feb 26, 2013 at 11:05 pm #1959146Lucky for me it will not except a non US paypal address(sigh)

Feb 27, 2013 at 7:37 am #1959206Feb 27, 2013 at 7:56 am #1959210At this price, I may as well try it out…
Feb 27, 2013 at 8:36 am #1959218and you know i picked one up.
Feb 27, 2013 at 9:21 am #1959231And you know that I'll buy it from you when you decide to sell it, Adam!
Feb 27, 2013 at 1:42 pm #1959370Hah, so true Gary!
Feb 27, 2013 at 3:22 pm #1959409Yeah, Dan, I think I might have bought everything he was selling last fall. And he's the best source of anything he sells–always a clean transaction, quality stuff at a good price. (Just a show of support for a BPL guy that isn't out to fleece the members, like some others seem to do…)
Feb 27, 2013 at 4:14 pm #1959429if my wife sees this thread, i'm toast. i finally have her convinced that everyone who likes the outdoors has a huge gear closet and 10+ jackets even if they live in atlanta ga.
i guess i am a hard working gear head and a minimalist at the same time. truth is, i cant pass up a great deal, and once i get it, if i don't want it, it goes up on gearswap. and i always try to pass the savings along.
most of my sales are from my personal gear closet which has thinned out considerably. i lost my job last fall and thank everyone who bought from me to keep my addiction alive and well. since the new job, my days selling are few and far between.
oh, and i learned everything i know from dale w.
happy hiking!
Mar 2, 2013 at 7:06 pm #1960732That price can't be beat. Anyone know how much they weigh yet?
Mar 2, 2013 at 7:19 pm #1960734I wear an XL hat– how are these things for size? Those of us with large noggins never trust "one size fits most."
Mar 3, 2013 at 5:30 am #1960787Dale, I'm in that boat too. I'll let you know what I find.
