They're on sale for $70 at amazon and REI; they come up to size 14;and i remember having good luck with Saucony back in the heavily-padded-heel days.

I'm wondering if anybody has wornt hem- specifically, how they fit and whether they're durable.

Thanks in advance for sharing your collective wisdom…

I have a pair of the original Peregrines that I picked up on clearance. Like Hartley says, the uppers are flimsy (but I like that they dry insanely fast and stretch quite a bit so the toe box doesn't feel *too* confining). I've been wearing mine for trail runs and weekend backpacking trips since early March, and the tread is hardly showing wear after a couple hundred miles. It is also quite sticky and has done pretty well on both wet and dry rock.

Tried on some Peregrine 2's to see if it would be worth sticking with the brand. The fit, as with the original model, is quite true to size. I wear a women's 9 in these, versus a 9.5 in Inov-8, Montrail, etc. If you can find them on sale, they're an okay deal but don't expect to get more than a season out of them. I decided not to get another pair because I really need something with a wider toebox.

I found them to be narrow in the forefoot compared to new balances minimus line which fit me well.

The Peregrine has an awesomely grippy sole. I have been through few a few pairs. The Peregrine 3s have a very flimsy upper. I had another problem with the Peregrine 2s…while they do dry fast…they tended to stretch out when wet. I also found myself catching the edge of the sole on my trousers — the sole is wider than the shoe. It's also a little beefier than I require for backpacking. I am ready for something different.

I recently got some Merrell Mix Master Glides. I love the feel and the lacing that goes down to the toes almost. I haven't been on the trail in them yet. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has used these for longer trips. How was the grip on scree, steep mud or wet rock?

(I have the Merrell Trail Glove. I play around in it. I won't be doing any long trips in a shoe like that!)
