Read a post from Henry on another site about the new and improved Tarptent Rainbow.
-The 2007 Rainbow (not yet released but now in production) has a full zippered beak and improved apex venting (both front and back now; prior model has only back apex venting)
Line starts here.

Better set up another line for retrofits for those of us with the first generation Rainbow and Double Rainbows who want the zipper added.

Henry – is this available and at what cost? Before you offer, Thanks but no, thanks; you can't stay in business doing these things for free.

Hi Bob
I can arrange a retrofit for $75 an hour, should not take more than two or three, four max.
I have some contacts in China for this kind of job. The slogan for my new company , Set in Concrete, is "we are slow but inefficient"

The new vestibule has a different design, so it is not as simple as "adding a zipper" , but this is my opinion only, maybe Henry has a different idea.

Franco,
Sorry for bothering you the other day, but I just had to know about the new rainbow. Appreciate your wisdom and insight.
Now its just a waiting game.

Franco:

You do mean $75 CHINESE dollars, right?

For the Rainbow, yes, it would take a new design to incorporate the added vent. I'm not so sure about the DR as it already has the two high vents front and rear. It doesn't look like it would be too hard to add the zippers and storm flaps to the existing design, but hey, what do I know?

Not all who wander are lost, they may simply be clueless.

We can't retrofit the velcro DR's with zippers. I've done it a couple of times and it's just simply too much work to remove velcro, retrofit zipper flap etc. to make it anywhere near cost effective. And the design works as is. The Rainbow is slightly easier to retrofit with a zipper (though not add a vent) but we don't have any production bandwidth to do it until sometime in the Fall. Call/write if you just have to have it done and then be prepared to wait….

JT, I post under Franco because I find that easy to remember, now you mention another Franco that seemingly has wisdom and insight. Should I change my moniker ?

Bob, I meant US dollars, because I know that you can afford it.

I came up with an idea for a "Not Made In China" sticker. In the camera shop I used to work in ,till last week, most items for sale were made in China. Now what will happen when the Chinese workers all decide that they also want to drive a car and have cable TV ?

The preliminary reviews of the DR 07 are up at http://www.backpackgeartest.org/, start at Recent Reviews…
There you can see the three changes from the 06 version
Congratulation to Edward and Stephanie for the excellent pictures and extensive description.
