I've dug through the BPL archives quite a bit, but haven't seen any recent discussions comparing the Six Moons Designs Lunar Solo and Tarptent Rainbow tents. I am considering both of them and have heard very good things about each one. Is it a matter of preference based on one or two key differences, or can you do no wrong with either of them? Here are some thoughts/questions I have based on my research:
Lunar Solo points:
=> Lighter (by about 9 oz, including stakes)
=> Larger vestibule (8.5 sf vs. 6 sf)
=> Less likelihood of leaking since there is no seam across the top
Rainbow points:
=> Easier setup
=> Can be pitched free standing with trekking poles (which is a big benefit in those unfortunate times when I'm pitching on a wooden tent platform)
=> Roomier (I like to bring my pack inside). But how much roomier?
Questions:
=> Does one of them have noticeably better ventilation (less condensation)?
=> Is one of them more resistant to wind/rain blow-in (button down tighter)?
=> Does one of them have a meaningfully higher bathtub floor?
=> How does the space compare inside? Are you less likely to brush the walls in one of them?
=> Are there any show stoppers (something that would drive you away from the tent)?
Both are great companies with top of the line products. Hoping to find some insight to sway my decision on way or the other. Thanks.
