Hey guys, for one of my classes in school I have been assigned to create a small, hypothetical business. Because of how much i love ultralight backpacking, I've decided to make a ultralight backpacking company similar to ZPacks or Gossamer Gear. However, I've yet to decide on a good name for the company so I wanted to ask you guys for some suggestions. Thanks!
Jan 30, 2013 at 4:58 pm #1949034You might look into a company name that is unlikely to have a conflict. You can get halfway there with your name. It is not too cryptic.
Stafford's Ultralight Gear

Jan 30, 2013 at 5:08 pm #1949037Just misspell "light" and throw it on to something–really just about anything. That'll get you 90% of the way there.
Jan 30, 2013 at 5:23 pm #1949042Use a thesaurus and throw in some German!
Light; synonym=cipher
Cipherwerks.
Or something…
Jan 30, 2013 at 5:24 pm #1949044I used to live in Germany, so the thought of using German did pop into my head!

but its gotta be Cyphrwerkz
-as per Bob: that might be too cryptic

You could misspell Light as Tight and make tents…
Jan 31, 2013 at 2:09 pm #1949400When I was into sewing up my own tents, my wife thought I should go into business and call the company "SEW-n-TENTs" like "so intense".
I though it was good.

Gramwerks / Gramworks?
When I programming in machine language (yes, machine, not assembly), my dba was Bit by Bit. And my license plate was BITXBIT.

you're bad! ;)
Jan 31, 2013 at 7:22 pm #1949497I personally would choose what you think is a nice name, without trying to stuff UL lingo in there. If you gotta preach in the name then I'd keep it indirect and clever like Gossamer Gear. Names like Ultralight Adventure (ULA), Hyperlight Mountain Gear, Prolite etc seem more like descriptions of their products that a real name IMO. Then again, this is just for a class and not a real business so maybe you want to be more obvious.
My suggestions are: Red Lupine Packs, Yarrow Equipment, Stafford Outdoors.
