Reinforcing Tie Outs

Currently working on two projects that have tie out points. A backpacking tarp and a hammock tarp, both out of silnylon.

In previous versions, I've just been using 200D Oxford Nylon with a polyurethane coating and sewing it onto the silnylon and then sewing the tie out to the reinforcement. This time I am implementing a couple of tie out points that will not be along seams, but in the middle of the panel of fabric. Wanted to make sure I figured out the best way to attach these tie outs.

I was reading the article about laminating Silnylon, but see that only applies when both materials are silnylon.

I searched, but could not find if there was anything that could be used to bond the 200D Oxford to Silnylon, or should I just sew them on? Or is there another alternative I am overlooking?

Maybe use silnylon for the reinforcement and then laminate it?

200D is probably over-kill

I've just been sewing tie-outs to seams without reinforcement without problem, although I don't camp in hurricane winds.

You need to spread the load.

Consider laminating a large reinforcing patch of silnylon (say 100 x 100 mm) onto the inside of the tarp with a very thin layer of silicone adhesive (a roller is good). Allow to cure for at least 24 hours – full cure takes 72 hours. Then laminate a smaller layer of silnylon (say 60×60 mm) onto that as well, again on the inside. Then sew the anchor point webbing on the outside with a matching small area of 200 d fabric (say 25×30 mm) on the inside to take the actual stitch load. If done carefully, I really can't see this failing.

I think I will give the layering idea a go. It sounds easily enough implemented and an ideal way to spread the load.
