I just picked up an Oware sil tarp and an unsure of whether to seal the tarp from the underside or the top (or both?) I've read the article on how to seam seal, just unsure of which threads to seal.

Standard practice would be to seal the outside, although on something like a tarp which is not sewn into a liner or mesh, sealing the inside would work just as well. I don’t believe you will find a need to seal both sides, if you seal it properly it will be waterproof and sealing the opposite side would just add weight with no other measurable payoff.
Well then, it's settled, I'll seal the the outside seam. Thanks for the advice Mike.

I don't know what silicone you are planning to use, but (a tip from BPL'ers) Permatex Flowable Silicone is a very easy product to work and is available at most auto parts stores. Here's a link (don't know anything about this store, just a link from a quick goggle search):
