Titanium roll alcohol stove

This is my first post at BPL and I figured showing off my new stove would be a good intro. Why? Well you see I only recently started backpacking and my new hobby was kicked off by this very thing. One day I randomly clicked a youtube link to a Pop Can Alcohol stove.. I love to tinker and found the entire concept fascinating. Of course I built 2 of them that very day, but in order to use them I would have to start hiking. Off to REI to pick up some gear for myself and my entire family of 5 and we spent last summer on several hikes in Norther Virginia.

Sure I may have spent 1000 bucks on tents, sleeping bags, packs, and whatnots but I'm still rocking that free pop can stove! I decided as the new year is coming up it was time for an upgrade. There is no way I was going to buy one so I picked up some Titanium online and a sheet of Aluminum. I spent a week building models out of cardboard and paper before I ended up with the final result which I'd like to share with the community here that has given me so much reading the last year.

The stove is designed for my MSR dualist pot set as I'm normally heating for a large family out. I wanted something that was light (duh), but very stable so my kids could use it, and able to hold not only my pots but the odd fry pan brought along for pancakes or whatnot. It weighs 2.5 Ounces and I could probably shave some here and there but this is just my first prototype. I'd like to work in a shallow pre-heat area under the stove but haven't gotten that far nor have I found a need yet.

How does it perform?

70 degree water inside with .75 Oz of fuel it boiled the 2 cups of water in 4:50 ( 212 degrees ) with flameout at 5:30 using paint can alcohol.

How high does the titanium sit above the ground surface? It looks like it could be a bit tippy if the ground surface was not cooperating.

2 3/4 Inches from the ground to the base of the windscreen which extends 1/2 an inch below the lower stove disk. The bottom of the pot is 5 3/4 Inches off the ground. Originally I had thought of having the lower legs just 1 inch long but since I was using AU tent stakes I figured I would try them a bit longer first ( just small enough to fit inside my pot sideways ) and see how it does. On level surfaces ( bar, deck, lawn ) it sits very well and isn't tippy at all with 2-4 cups of water. Since the air draft is from below the stove and there is only a 1/4 inch lip around the top, the windscreen does an amazing job of blocking flame.

In an error on my scale ( it was new and I missed a packing brace ) the total weight comes in at 3.4 oz instead. I'll modify my original post later.

2-3/4 inches is fine, except that I wonder if you need that much. I would think that an inch or so would be sufficient to admit air. Maybe you aren't interested in chopping up your aluminum stakes. Lowering the center of gravity will make it less tippy, but you might have to test it in wind to see if it tips.

You stated that the total weight is 3.4 ounces, and that does not include the fuel. Does that include the fuel bottle, or is that an additional weight?

I think your right, the next one I build ( I have 2 pots ) will be 1/4 to 1/2 inch taller in the windscreen section and 3/4 to 1 inch lower in the legs. I also want to re-design the top 'X' pot support arms with something that looks like an 'O' with 4 small wings coming off. This would give me access to place a simmer ring down on the stove which is impossible now due to the hot support arms. If anyone knows of a good simmer ring design for this style of pop stove I would love to hear about it.
