Notice I said Ti AND system.

The lightest Ti system I have found (forwarded to me by a memeber on here, thankyou)is the Lite Trail Ti solid fuel cook system. Here it is for your vewing pleasure – http://litetrail.com/shop/litetrail-titanium-solid-fuel-cook-system

I am wondering if this is as low a weight for an entire system as you can get. It is 2.8 ounces (79.4g). I 'could' make a modification by replacing the Ti lid with Alu foil and I guess you 'could' go a smaller cup but 550ml is feasably the absolute smallest I'd like to use….any other suggestions?

Thanks for your time.

Mik.

It's a good setup, I did a DIY similar to it but with a 640ml evernew and carbon lid.

If you get it I would nix the round baseplate, it's not nessecary. Great kit though, weighs less than just an empty mini canister.

isn't the basplate a heat reflector in case you are on cold wet ground? I suppose that could be replaced by Alu foil as well.

The new revised system has a tray built in to the stand, unlike the last model.

The baseplate might help a little and only weighs a few grams though.

The only thing that could be improved is a welded windscreen.

It is a nice system and so far I am pleased with it. Will it replace my CC GVP? Not sure yet. I need to do some side-by-side comparisons.

I don’t like not having some sort of pot gripper. I have been using a Zelh silicone band at 0.8 ounces. I might get a Vargo Titanium Gripper also at 0.8 ounces.

The link shows two pictures of the stand. One is indistinguishable from the Esbit version and the other does not have a shelf for the fuel. How is yours set up?

An alternative pot gripper to a Silicone Band that's a little bit lighter & works well are Dritz Thermal Thimbles. They are much lighter than the Vargo Pot Gripper and a fraction of the cost.

They come in a three pack – the two biggest sizes work great on your thumb & index finger (I ditch the smallest one). It allows you use your thumb and index finger to comfortably reach around & lift your 550 ml pot. (BTW: they also allow you to grip a hot handle but the Lite Trail pot obviously doesn't have handles)
They are made of heat resistant silicone, which is easy to clean (if needed) and dry in a flash.

I hand sew some very light gauge spectra thread between those two thimbles to tether them "together". The whole "system" weights a very light 0.16 oz on my scale. You can get them cheap for $4 if you deal shop or $6 if you pay MSRP.

Been thinking to fashion one out of neoprene. It would bouble as an insulator to keep coffee/tea/hot chocolate warm longer on cold mornings/nights. Not sure of weight though it can't be so much that it's a deal breaker…hopefully.

I couldn't fine a source for the thimbles, so I got that orange pot gripper that your thumb and two fingers fit in from GSI. To make it worth shipping, I grabbed a coffee filter, working on my coffee snob apprenticeship.

You can google "Dritz Thermal Thimbles" for multiple sources.
You have an excellent point about being careful on the shipping cost negating any cost savings from MSRP.

I picked mine up at Joann's because one of their stores close to my home.

EDIT:

FWIW the GSI Pot Gripper is listed at 0.5 oz

… a little more than 0.3 oz heaver, if that's of any "importance"

Hi there,
I have this system and my scale says that it weighs more than the website, not much and I don’t give my scale a lot of credit any how, other than to tell me which items weigh less when compared to each other. I think my weights for the whole system came to around 3.1 oz, which is still great for me. I found that when using the system in cooler temps, there was not a need for separate pot grip or other such mechanism other than a glove (which also wasn’t completely necessary, I’m just scared of getting burned.) You can see my wife do a review under the video tab on the Litetrail website or at:
LiteTrail solid fuel cook kit
And you can see me use it on my latest trip here around 1:50
Field use
I’m using a Possum Down glove as a heat barrier.
I love the system. I cook my food, blow out the esbit, eat my food, refill pot with water for coffee, relight esbit and heat my water, then enjoy hot coffee. It works for me and I don’t know if I could get by with a much smaller pot (not that there are really many options anyway).
If you get it I’m sure you’ll like it.
