Greetings,
I'm gearing up for a seven day through hike of the Wonderland Trail and targeting the last week of August 2013. Everything I've researched so far seems to indicate that hammock camping with either be prohibited or impractical. I'm currently using a Kelty Noah's tarp 9×9 but it's weighing in at 1.5 lbs so it's is at the top of my list of gear to upgrade.
I will do enough ground camping in the future so a dual purpose (hammock and ground) tarp isn't an absolute requirement but as a hockey dad I can't pretend that money is no object.
It seems that a Zpacks Hammock tarp w/doors may be ideal and I could use a MLD superlight bivy, bug bivy, or some other inner net with this set up. I plan on purchasing Black Diamond Carbon Cork trekking poles in the near future and I would use them with spectra line for a traditional A frame setup. Has anyone else used this tarp for ground camping and how did it work out for you? Seems that two adults could sleep under this setup easy enough.
I'm 6'3" if that makes a difference in your advice.
Thanks
Ian
