I'm looking for a source for an 8×8 silnylon tarp. HMG sells a cuben 8.5×8.5 tarp, but that's well out of my price range. Any ideas on who might sell them? Thanks.

I have ordered, but not yet received, a 9×9 from Borah Gear. They were most accommodating in answering my questions and doing some simple custom mods I requested. If you check the comments following this article,

there are several other options listed. After reviewing this, and WAY too much other research, I decided on the Borah. Others will likely have favorites. I look forward to test-pitching my new tarp soon.

If you don't like the cost of most UL flat tarps, maybe look into a used one. 8×8 is not very common.
8×10 on the other hand are quite common. You can easily find them used and the Equinox/Campmor 8×10 is a good value.

P.S. The Oware 9×9(8'10" x 8'10") is somewhat common and is often on sale. You may be able to find a used one if you ask on the buy/sell forum.

Thanks for all the replies.

When I said the HMG tarp is out of my price range, I meant that I can't justify spending $325 on a cuben tarp. I mentioned that specific tarp because it seemed to be one of the few I could find in a similar size to what I'm looking for. As far as I'm concerned, I'd rather carry silnylon over cuben for the sake of durability (not just price.)

I'm probably going to look into ordering a custom tarp. The cottage-industry recommendations above are warmly welcomed.

Cheers,
Rem

I highly recommend Oware. I am in the process of ordering my 3rd custom tarp from David. He always provides excellent quality fast and at very reasonable prices. Send him a good diagram and he can build anything you want.
