Light puffy sizing based on use: Rab Xenon, Patagonia Nano Puff, Montbell Thermawrap

Also, can any women here or any of their spouses share any thoughts on the Women's Xenon cut and sizing? It looks like they made the women's version with a thinner mid section, and though my wife has a slim athletic build she's generally found outdoor garment makers efforts like that often not practical for comfortable layering, and finds them more a nod to fashion over function.

I can't comment specifically on the Xenon, but I frequently find that I prefer the men's cut in many jackets, especially Rab. For baselayers and some midlayers the women's cuts are a godsend, but any outer garment is totally focused on fashion instead of function. Now I don't even bother with some of the women's outer stuff…just got a men's rab infinity on gear swap and it fits perfectly. It's also cut a bit longer, so it actually covers my hips and butt a bit, unlike the women's version.

It's a shame really…I've been terribly disappointed with the design of women's outdoor gear these past few years. I used to be thrilled at the prospect of finally getting away from men's clothes to hike in, but now, having the choice, I find myself going right back to the men's stuff for insulation and outer layers.
