In muddy or rainy conditions, it's nice to have something to place right in front of the tent door that can be knelt upon, or to put feet while lacing up boots or taking them off. I have been using sections of Z-lite matts, which do double-duty as seating in camp, but I'm contemplating changing my backpack to a lighter model than the Sixmoondesigns Traveler I'm currently using, and I would no longer need the pads as part of the suspension.

I'm thinking of just cutting small portions of plastic sheeting. Does anyone else worry about this sort of thing, and what solutions do you use?

Some use Tyvek for that.
You could make one almost the size of your vestibule to minimise condensation from ground evaporation and just fold it for pre-nightime use.

BTW, you can use PVA (Elmers glue) to glue Tyvek

On a recent 10 week kayak trip, we used a Tyvek ground sheet under our SS2, and used Tyvek tape to add on two rectangles strategically placed outside each door for the exact purposes Diane describes – kneeling on, standing on, putting shoes on etc. Our "door mats" were used every day, many times a day, and added to the usability of our setup. Having the Tyvek sections attached to the groundsheet meant they were fixed and couldn't shift or be blown away.

Not a truly UL concept I agree, but our gear wasn't on our backs and the tiny penalty in kayak storage used was repaid countless times over by the convenience factor.
