Day hike in sequoia national park

Question: how do you get night shots like that? I have a small understanding of photography (what iso/shutter speed/aperture are and how they affect pictures, etc.) but don't know how to apply my knowledge all the time in order to get good shots.

Aside from that, the park looks gorgeous. I would love to go there sometime.

My guess is that Kevin used a very good tripod. Too many photographer wannabes think that weighs too much, so they skip it.

Kevin might have used a flash unit on the camera, but I will guess that he 'painted' the scene with a continuous light. I guess that because he did a great job with it.

Hey George,
It helps to be in a place very dark with no city lights. But the basic setup uses a high iso, greater than 800. Next leave the shuttler open 10-30 secs. Also a bright aperture setting, less then f4.

Both images used a 30sec exposure/800 iso/f3.5 / 18mm lens

On those night pictures, I took advantage of light from a street lamp to have the trees bright. Using light from campfires, tents or even the moon adds to the picture.
