It snowed on the drive up, but the sky clear and I got these shots.

Great hike! the only person we saw a ranger collecting water samples. Its a great easy winter hike, it follows along the Kaweah river.

Aside from that, the park looks gorgeous. I would love to go there sometime.
Dec 28, 2012 at 3:56 pm #1938894My guess is that Kevin used a very good tripod. Too many photographer wannabes think that weighs too much, so they skip it.
Kevin might have used a flash unit on the camera, but I will guess that he 'painted' the scene with a continuous light. I guess that because he did a great job with it.

Dec 28, 2012 at 4:13 pm #1938900Hey George,
It helps to be in a place very dark with no city lights. But the basic setup uses a high iso, greater than 800. Next leave the shuttler open 10-30 secs. Also a bright aperture setting, less then f4.Both images used a 30sec exposure/800 iso/f3.5 / 18mm lens
On those night pictures, I took advantage of light from a street lamp to have the trees bright. Using light from campfires, tents or even the moon adds to the picture.
Hope that answers your question.
