So, I have worn the Montrail Masai's for the past 5 years and now cannot find them anywhere. I emailed Montrail and they told me the odyssey was the closet to the Masai's until now. Anyone know about these. From Montrail:
# The son of Hardrock
# Hammerheads
# High-mileage trail runners
# Sensitive feet
# Flexible conforming upper expands to accommodate wider feet
# Four-density midsole plus TerraHex cushioning and shear control system
# Airmesh windows enhance airflow
* Trail-stable
* Medial posting plus TerraHex cushion platform
* TerraFlexâ„¢ protection and control
* Stretch gusset keeps out nasties
Sounds perfect. Availabe 4/1.Mar 31, 2007 at 10:26 am #1384343># The son of Hardrock
I hope this doesn't mean the end of the Hardrock!
Mar 31, 2007 at 10:32 am #1384344I don't think the Hardrock is in danger, Montrail just added a mid-top version of it called the Namche (which I recently snagged) which might just be the cat's meow for fast and light backpacking. It may be my new go-to shoe for extended trips.
I am curious about the Nitrus, as well. My local Montrail sources are not planning to carry it.
Apr 1, 2007 at 7:07 am #1384395Those look great, but I haven't seen them in the wild (stores) yet. I'm also really intrigued by the Phoenix model, but the website says they are for the EU only!
-MarkApr 1, 2007 at 1:34 pm #1384451I have the Montrail Namche. Sinnce I like a mid-height shoe, they are great…..light weight with good support and good grip. They were comfortable right out of the box
May 25, 2007 at 7:21 pm #1390351I took these out on a 3 day trip to Big Bend NP and the little yellow gryptonite nugs on the sole all came off. I emailed Montrail and they are aware of the issue and are looking into it. They advised me to return my shoes until a solution is found.
Just a heads up for anyone who may be looking into them.

May 31, 2007 at 10:39 pm #1390906Whoa – bad deal. But I can't help but laugh at the Hansel and Gretel analogy. Little yellow dots to follow all the way back to the trailhead!
Jun 1, 2007 at 7:08 am #1390922You wear 2 Left shoes ? Could this have been a factor? :-)
Jun 1, 2007 at 6:29 pm #1390981The same sole delamination happened on two pair in a shoe review I was doing.
I also will second the Namche as being a very good shoe.
