I've seen reference a couple of places to people using down booties inside of ski touring boot shells for wear around camp and this seems like a good way to go light on tours where we are carrying all of our gear while we ski every day. I tried this with the bulky/cheap down booties we have (NF and sierra designs) and they don't really fit thanks to the thick soles. I'm wondering what booties people are using/recommend for this system.
The choices I see are:
40 Below Camp Booties, Synthetic, 10 oz Removable insole for use in boot shells but on the heavy side
Integral Designs Hot Socks, Synthetic, 4 oz, No Sole? Probablly not warm enough
Rab Expedition Slippers, 75 g (2.6 oz) 850+ fill down , No Sole? 8.5 oz again on the heavy side but seem super warm.
Goose Feet Down Socks, 1 oz 850+, no sole?, 2.2oz
Western Mountaineering Flash, 800 fill, 1/4 inch insole, 3 oz
Just the Inner booties from FF bootie+shell system, 4oz 850 fill, 9.3 oz for whole system 5.2 oz for inners. Removable insole but not sure which part it goes with or what the weight of just the liners is.
We plan on using these in the winter in the norther rockies (Bitterroots primarily wich are a bit warmer then many places) and will need a pair to fit inside 23 (mondo … 6.5 us women's) shells and another for 27.5 (us 10) so coming in small sizes is a must.
I'm leaning towards the feathered friends due to the higher amount of fill but would to hear if anyone has made the WM or GF work in similar conditions as it would be nice to not have to pay for the shells.
Or if anyone has tried this and thinks it is a stupid idea ;)
