Thanks to all for comments in response to my VBL questions.
Next question – if a VBL can take care of the condensation problems, might using a VBL address the main problem of bivies? Has anyone tried VBL in a bivy? At range of temperatures? How'd it go? If using a VBL, could one get away with a non-breathable bivy? Or just throw a sheet of polycryo over a bug bivy? (I'm thinking of this in combo with a microtarp to cover head and shoulders.)
I have a feeling that answer may come back to an adequately sized tarp for at least some of the potential circumstances, but maybe the balance shifts in some others?
