Just recieved a sample pack of Los Cuernos Adventure Foods Summit Bars.

What is a summit bar?

Each 55 gram (1.94 ounces) has between 219 and 240 calories.
That puts them in the 2,000 calories per pound "sweet spot" range i always look for in trail foods.

Several new flavors have arrived.

I will be trying them out and posting here as they go along with me on day hikes.

Today i sampled the Chewy Maple Pecan.
I am struck by just how moist these bars are but they are still not heavy with water weight.
The flavor was subtle and not too sweet.
Did not need to wash it down with water.
A honey like flavor with nutty pecan and almond.
Very fresh tasting and unlike anything i have tried before. These bars are not trying to be anything but a naturally high energy nut and seed based food without a lot of chemicals.

Just the right portion size at 2 ounces, the little vaccum packed 2 inch squares would be perfect to pack in a bear canister or cram into the extra spaces of your food bag.
I like the minimalist packaging and the bar itself leaves no crumbs or mess so that the empty wrapper is clean.

I notice the nutritional info on the label says:
234 calories
Fat 15 grams (saturated 4 grams trans 0)
cholesterol 3 mg
sodium 3 mg
carbohydrate 21 grams
Fibre 2.9 grams
Sugars 15 grams
Protein 9 grams

Also packs 6% dv of calcium
as well as 11% dv of iron

Chewy Chocolate Hazelnut

Chewy Chocolate Peanutbutter

This is a new cottage company that is just ramping up production.
At the moment they are offering samples but they will have pricing and quantity purchasing in the near future.

Must say, my chewy Maple Pecan Summit bar was superb!

I hope the price is competitive. I suspect that if they are a better quality product, they will also be more expensive?

I think they are still working that out.

It cost them $8.52 to mail me a package of 8 bars from Canada to California.

Shipping was quite fast having been sent from Elora Ontario on the 12th and recieving it here in Ben Lomond California on the 21st.
I have sent things between Canada and the US myself and it can take a while so i understand this was reasonably quick.
All this is to say, their choice of shipping would be a good benchmark for future estimates as regard to pricing.

Shipping costs were about 1 dollar a bar.

I have paid close 2 dollars for Cliff bars.
These Summit Bars are much better tasting than Cliff bars.
Not to say Cliff bars are bad, (actually eat them all the time at work) just that these taste much better and don't have all the chemicals.
I like the simplicity of these summit bars and the way they taste home baked.
I can pronounce every ingredient on the short label of a Los Cuernos Bar.. reading a Cliff Bar label requires a higher education than i posses and encompasses several paragraphs.

I am willing to pay upwards of $2.50 to $3 dollars per bar for these.
In fact i will be placing an order as soon as they are ready.
