I was going to get a Klymit Static V because everyone said it would probably be the best pad for my side sleeping tall frame. Upon going to the Klymit website one last time before I purchased one I find out there is now an insulated version. Dang choices.

The regular version has a rough R value of 1.3. I don't know about the insulated version but I will be calling Monday to find out more. It seems there is about 7 ounces of Primaloft in it from the specs. If you do a correlation with Big Agnes who it seems uses less insulation you should be able to get more than an R value of 4.

I was going to try and just use a regular Static V with my Thermarest Solar pad for colder conditions. Do you put the Solar under or over the inflated pad to get the warmth? Would a AMK Heetsheets works just as well? Are there other options? Would it be better to do one of these layering options or just get the insulated version? Hmmm…

7oz too much for me. I have found the Static to keep me warm, with a 20f quilt and a puffy, to temps below 10f. I tend to sleep pretty average, my feet get cold sometimes. Unless you're taking this into the negative I would save yourself some weight and $. You can get the regular static V for around $50 with 20% coupons from major retailers like Campsaver. It doesn't look like any retailers even have the insulated version available yet. Nice to see though, I think the design of these are great. Perhaps they could be a little more accommodating to people in excess of 6' though.

Hello,

I have been a fan of the Static V as a great summer time, highly economical, sleeping pad – but there is just no way that the Insulated Static V makes any sense at all to me.

The NeoAir XTherm is wider, lighter and offers a better R-value, as a winter season sleeping pad.

The only thing that the Insulated Static V has going for it is the $90 price tag.

If you really did want to go the route of the ISV and the TaR SOL Ridge Rest, it would be one crazy heavy setup, but could get likely you up to the same r-value level as the XTherm.

Lots of people have lots of thoughts on whether to put your air pad above or under your CCF pad. I find putting the air pad on the bottom provides me a bit better sleeping plateform, as the ccf is flat and my body does not roll around so much like it does no the baffles of an air pad.

I have been using the AMK solo blanket as a groundcloth since it was released. It is holding up well enough and does add some minute amount of r-value that something like the GG groundcloth would not. Probably very little, but its gotta be more than just straight polycryo. It also can be used as a taco/vbl should temperatures get way below my sleeping bags rating.

I was going to pick up the AMK two person emergency blanket to use as a VBL on my quilt as my solo isn't large enough for me to use in taco mode.

And the reason I was looking at the Static V Insulated was because of the price. There is no way I am going to be paying XTherm or Xlite prices. I think the weight of the Static insulated V might be a bit off in that 7oz of Primaloft seems a bit much.

And using a Static V with a Solar would just be for those rare occasions where I would be camping in the winter where the Solar by itself would not be enough. I would be wearing all my clothes also when using it in cooler temps so it is good to know that I really can push it Daniel. I am tall also but used to having my feet hang off the end. I will probably have to get an Exped pillow.

That is what I plan to do.. i got lawson's 1/8" torso pad to put over my static v to kinda flatten things out and add a bit more R value. I don't camp below 30F much anyway so that should be plenty. i'm glad to see it works.

Yeah the solo is just big enough for me to wrap myself in, but with very very little room left over. Probably good enough for a VBL if it was ever needed to be used as one.

I hear ya man, suckers are crazy expensive. I got my XTherm as a second quality so it came at a rather nice discount. MSRP of $219 or something is just crazy.

If you do get in contact with Klymit and they provide you an r-value for this new insulated Static V please drop a reply message so we can all know what it will be!!

The insulated Static V has an R value of roughly 5 with about 6-7 ounces of Primaloft inside according to Tanner at Klymit.

Thanks!!

So about 5 ounces per r-value

Compare that to the 3.94 r-value per ounces of the XTherm

Dollar for dollar that (just like the Static V compared to the XLite) makes the Klymit sleeping pad a much better decision from a pocketbook perspective.

Quite. I just wished they made a better pillow. The people at Klymit said it was the same as the regular just a different color and fill. Half the price of Thermarest.

Anyone have any updates on how they like their Insulated Static V?
