Per label instructions, I just washed my eVent jacket and now am told to steam iron it. Does this mean to hold iron off of surface and do it with steam, or to actually iron it with steam coming out?

Kevin, I iron my nylon items using low heat (able to touch the iron surface for a 1/2 second or so with my finger). Keep the iron moving and start with an inconsipicuous place, maybe inside the jacket. I even ironed a 15 denier calendarized nylon sleeping bags when I bought it new. No problem.
One interesting note, with eVENT you should see steam moving through the fabric; impossible with goretex or other ancient waterproof laminates.
Thanks for the info, and I am kinda chicken here, but why would you iron a sleeping bag?
Perhaps to reactivate the fabric's DWR.
