The manufactures have to be conservative so they don't get consumer warranty claims. The temps used for DWR setting at the factory are much higher than they recommend for consumers.

> and temps here eanged btw 140F (@richard) to 140C (@roger…but I assume that is a typo?
Not really. But Richard answered that one.
Nylon melts around 240 C from memory.
40 C – that's the 'ouch' temperature for touch. By recommending not-above that they avoid comnsumer liability issues.
One good trick if your iron does not have a good temp dial is to get the iron *just* to steam temp. That will not hurt nylon.

Hokay

so i did the iron thingi @about 120C (according to my new IR thermo…BTW @richard nisley – although i am familiar with the emissivity issue from thermal cams in my current tests there didnt seem to be significant diff btw taped vs non taped iron)

The gtx seems better in the yard hose test….now when i come to think about this – HOW WOULD YOU TEST DWR thoroughly? (assuming there is barely any rain in israel….

should i just compare it to my eVent pants side by side under hose?

Mike
