I wanted a long sleeping bag with a hood, with high count, down fill. It needed to be rated for 20*, or less. So, I purchased a Marmot Pinnacle on sale at REI for $300. The problem is, I’m concerned about the weight. I believe it is about 46 oz.

Did I make a mistake? Could I find something lighter with the same performance for the same price?

You could save half a pound with the very similar but lighter Helium. I paid less than $300 for it by waiting for a great deal, and I've been very happy with its performance.

We're fast approaching the holiday deal season, so if you can wait a little bit I'd hold out for a Helium or something similar. In the meantime you might try posting on gear swap as well.

Nate,

I think it depends on what you are looking for. The helium is fine for most people to 20F, but I found I needed the pinnacle to get to be comfortable at 20F. I found that the additional down and draft collar really helped. Caveat: I am female, and I also sleep cold. The pinnacle is perhaps too much bag for my husband, who sleeps a lot warmer.

The pinnacle long is actually spec'd at 44 oz, and the helium is 6 oz lighter, fyi.

My Helium (long) has a measured weight of 37.6oz, which is what I was basing my comparison on, but if the Pinnacle is actually 44oz then the weight savings isn't as much as I thought.

That being said I've been toasty warm down to the low teens in the Helium (on a DM7), and would feel comfortable pushing it into the single digits with appropriate layers. You of course may sleep warmer or cooler, so that's just just my experience for what it's worth.
