HMG Echo 2 vs. MLD Grace Tarp duo

Any thoughts on these two shelters? I currently use the MLD patrol and polycro for a solo shelter for myself, but was thinking of adding either one of these two for hiking with my wife.

I know they are both high quality, but I was looking for any echo or grace cuben owners who have a preference.

Resurrecting a pretty old thread but it’s my exact question and no one ever replied.  At first glance the main difference seems to be that the MLD Cuben Grace Duo is a bit larger (mostly due to longer ridgeline) but the Grace Duo is actually lighter by a couple of ounces at least.  It seems that HMG is probably overbuilt a bit and that is where the added weight is coming in.

My initial reaction is to go with the additional length provided by the Grace Duo (111″ ridge length over 102″ for the Echo II).  Any other thoughts from owners of either/both?

Have you seen this review of the Grace Duo

MLD Grace Duo

Here’s a photo from the review showing an Echo II on top of a Grace Duo.  Pretty significant size difference.

I did see that but that is on top of the silnylon version of the grace duo. Interestingly enough the Cuben grace duo is a little smaller than its Silnylon cousin.  Although it’s still larger than the Echo II so your point is still on target.

I just bought an Echo II and really like the look of it and how well it is made. Haven’t taken it camping yet but set it up in the yard.

I love my Echo II, but I will say my wife doesn’t love it so much.  Definitely a tight fit with both of us in there.  Her biggest complaint is head height, given it is nearly impossible to sit upright with two people (tough for one) in the Echo II.  I still love it for solo trips, but ended up going with a much bigger Tarptent Stratosphere 2 for our trips together.
