This year has had its high points and low points.
The highs included the marriage of our oldest son and the addition of a new daughter in law to our family. A new contract was agreed to which secured my employment for another 5 years or until I retire, whichever comes first. ;-)
The lows have had my wife and I taking turns visiting physicians of every shape, size and variety for everything from sinus trouble to surgery. I had to back out of my usual 1 or 2 weeks of section hiking with "Laz" on the AT this year for lack of vacation time.:-(
I tried and overnight in my local state park on the hottest day of the year and baled. At 10:30 pm it was 84 degrees, humid and breeze-less. We "bagged" our camp into the bed of my pick-up and I was home for 12:05 am. So it is now official that I have been in that park on the coldest and the hottest day of the year. ;-?
Lately I have developed a severely high temperature due to CABIN FEVER!
But this coming weekend with the temperatures getting lower Lazarus and I will get to do a 24 hour, out and back hiking and camping trip on the Backbone Trail in the Kisatchie Wilderness.

I'll only be four hours away from home but it will seem like I'm in another world. In 2008 Lazarus introduced me to hiking and to use his own words, "I created a monster". Things have never been quite the same around the house. I started sewing stuff sacks, packs, tarps and bivys. I started looking at recyclables as feed stock for alcohol stoves. I bought a scale and started weighing everything including my underwear. LOL
This coming weekend the weather will be cooler and my "temperature" will go down.
Lazarus and his monster are going hiking and camping again.
Party On,
Newton
