I'm thinking about using a Heinenken keg can pot to trim weight, but I am inclined to stick with the convenience of my canister stove. Does the Heine pot work with a SP Giga stove or is the stove's flame pattern just too wide for this to be efficient?

Russell,
I've used a Snow Peak Ti solo (dia. 3.75") on my Brunton Crux canister stove and found that the flame lapped up the sides a bit…slowed the boil time just a tad. The Heineken keg is 3.25 dia., but for a couple bucks it might be worth experimenting with! I,m in the process of doing that but for use with an esbit stove. I used an army surplus P-38 (fits on a key chain) can opener to remove the keg's top.
Just FYI… a side cut can opener will do a MUCH cleaner, neater job of lid removal. And it will keep the rolled lip on the can too… which makes it nice and strong. One brand you could look for is by Good Cook. Ultralight Outfitters sells them on their website. Also… if you look for the "lighest kitchen" thread in this forum… there's a lot of talk there about my beer can / esbit setup… which is 48 grams / 1.7 oz total. Mind you… that with a pricy BPL Ti windscreen and a BPL Ti rod handle… so… not cheap. But oven liner works for a windscreen… and gloves work for a handle.
Thanks guys. I've bought the beer, now I've just got to drink it! No probs there. I'm surprised this didn't get more feedback; I'm sure everyone with a Heine pot has tried it with a cannister stove at least once…or maybe not…
David,
I've actually got one of those side cut openers, so I'll use that. And yes, I've read through your kitchen thread and that's what prompted me to give this the Heine pot a shot. I just can't give up the convenience of my SP Giga or I'm sure I'd use your setup in it's entirety. Great job on that, by the way!
Hi Russell.
I am on the look out for 2 empty Heini pots. Could you mail me please?
