I have been wanting to do this for a while…I never really cared for the removable lid that came with this pack…and the draw string closure never seemed to work good for me (especially with a bear can). I like the way the new GG packs close up, but i have no money…so, i went for that style on my new lid using some 1.43 oz cuben i had. Not really MYOG, but its fun to kinda try something new. The other packs that i have made have all be roll-top dry-bag style but i like this better…super easy to do too btw…
pack lid
pack lid2
pack lid 3
I gained about, oh idk, 5-10 liters in volume….im estimating of course….but after trimming a ton of needless stuff off the pack, i am sitting right around 24oz…not too bad!

Awesome job! Great way to improve what you already have! How did you sew the cuben onto the bag?

Nice way to hack a Osprey Exos pack you did a great job. I would have liked it better if you used 1.9 oz Grey ripstop nylon for your fabric choice. Not a big fan of Cuben.

Nice work!I love my Exos 46.Great with 35lbs in it….Fantastic with 15lb load. I tossed out the lid.A great off the shelf sub 2 lb pack. I've hauled 10 days food and packraft in mine.I'd love to make a Cuben pack bag for it and just use the frame and side pockets.

For those with an Exos who simply forgo the lid, do you have any other method to prevent rain entry into the pack?
I too dislike the lid, but this would be my primary concern with removal – not because anything would get wet (it wouldn't), but because small rain pools in the bottom of a pack = carrying more 'water weight.'
I can never get the top cinch cord to stay tightly closed, either.
