Waterproofing spray for 30D quilt?

Hi folks,

I've been lurking for a while, and now I have a question (might be a rookie question, too). I have an Enlightened Revelation X down quilt, which I love dearly. I live in Oregon- the rain is back, and I'm wondering about using waterproofing spray, like Nikwax or ReviveX on the 30D Nylon of the quilt to improve its repellency.

I'm not expecting to make it waterproof (I know a bivy would be the trick for this)- just want to help it shed dampness when I sleep out or use a tarp, but don't want to mess anything up. Thoughts?

Have you tested the water repellency on your quilt? It should have a DWR on it as is that should work.

If it doesn't the general consensus is that Nikwax is better for the environment and a bit easier to apply, but doesn't last as long as as a fluorocarbon based DWR. I don't remember if ReviveX is a wax or fluorocarbon, but usually if the application requires tossing the garment into the drier, then it's a fluorocarbon. If just air dry is necessary, then a wax.

In my own testing, real world and at home, I've found Revivex to be the best DWR, even better than wash-in NikWax or spray-on Techtron.
