So I actually was able to find one of those Haglofs Ozo shells (!) and wow it really is worth the hype. However…I had to buy a men's (not like I had a lot of choice…) and learned a very good lesson about the difference between a European man and an American woman: my butt must be a lot bigger than that of an athletic male Swede.
Anyway…I do love this shell but there is no way my thick arcteryx fleece is going to fit in there with my apparently large derrière. And given that there aren't any more of these shells to be had anywhere, and I'd rather make this work and not send it back to Sweden.
Long story short, I need a good layer to go under my first WPB jacket and am SO overwhelmed by all my options. I've narrowed my search to R1 vs cap4 at this point.
My primary concern is my ability to use these pieces for Chicago bike commuting, but obviously would use it on the trails too. I'm about normal temp wise while hiking and biking but get super hot running or hiking hard. I'm outside pretty much year round either running, biking or hiking and am looking for a warm, versatile piece to layer with.
I know one is a base and one is a mid, but can't you really use either one for either purpose? If not, please teach me…
I do have some merino bases that can be part of this system as well, but I don't want a big thick poofy layer/set of layers as I wouldn't be able to ever actually remove this wonderful shell when I need to.
HELP!!
