The new material is a step up over earlier versions, more fleece like (ie, micro-grid) – so somewhat less wind resistant but basically just as warm, and the weight savings are significant. Case in point – the new zip-top is about 3oz lighter (178g versus 258g) than the previous iteration – it's basically an R1/2 pullover and would make a great active layer for late season backpacking. Lighter and more technical than my 260g/m2 merino tops. Very tempting.
