My son wants to add a bit of warmth under his Thermarest and down where his feetsies hang off the bottom end. This stuff might fill the bill — where does one usually find this stuff?

Not much insulation in the 1/8" pads! If Mark Verber's site is correct, R = 0.4

…or, consider using an old auto shade. Cheap, super light, and with its reflective surface, might be more effective than plain ol' CCF. Just a thought……
well the ~1/5" stuff they sell at MEC is given as 0.7R …. if his feet are cold consider one of those sit pads CD sells … or cut up an old foamie …
