Hey guys.
So i was looking for boots for long hiking and treking, mainly 5-7 days treks with gear and sometimes even more.
So i bought the Salomon Discovery gtx, which now from seems for me at least to be a bit short, and less aggressive in comparison to other boots such as their big brother the Salomon Quest and other…
I must say that i have tried many different boots in many stores and those were the most comfortable for me, but still, now that i look at them I'm afraid they wont be aggressive enought.
What do you guys think?

Thanks.

What do you mean when you say "agressive enough".
It looks like your Discovery is a little lighter than the Quest but they're both high top and fairly heavy.
Are you doing mountaineering? Like putting crampons on, kicking steps in snow, temps much below freezing? Then you need heavier boots. Otherwise, if your Quests feel good, they're probably okay.
At backpackinglight.com many people prefer much lighter low top hiking shoes.
I am familiar with the fit and feel of both the Discovery and the Quest boots by Salomon, and I am certain you did fine. Now, both of these are way heavier and beefier than what a lot of people on this site do really well with, so if you're carrying loads under 40lb, you not only have a boot that will handle it, but maybe even more than you "need".
In fact, I backpack with the Quests and I love the lightness (a relative term, of course), the ankle-protection (impact, thorns and dirt) and the relatively beefy sole (compared to my trail runners) when I am on rocky trails, tromping through shallow streams or out in cold rainstorms with nice, dry feet. I have backpacked with heavy (all standards) Raichle's, Lava Dome approach shoes, trail runners, light boots and more, and find the Quest to definitely be beefy enough for anything. In fact, I think they're heavier than I need for most of what I do.
Your Discovery boots actually weigh a tad more than the Quests do, but use a similar running-shoe style construction in the lowers. If they're comfortable for you, you've got a boot that will take you anywhere. WEAR THEM OUT and then you're allowed to buy new ones. :)
Eric and Jerry, Thanks!
I guess i'll stick with the discovery.
I glanced at Salomon web site
It's difficult to tell whether Quest or Discovery is heavier
Or any good information to choose between so many different models
Why do they do that? So many different models and no way to know which is best for a particular use…
FWIW,
I only hike in Salomon shoes. I have out on at least 1000 km on my current pair and they have a ton of life left.
Heavy? No.

Aggressive boots?????
Do they bite, snarl or attack silently?
Look, the single most important thing in footwear is COMFORT! If these were the most comfortable, then right choice of the two.
In time you may find that far lighter shoes work even better, but remember COMFORT.
Cheers
