Hi folks,

Over the last couple of years I have bought at least 2 pairs of Trail runners and Mid's that fitted fine in the shop but after wearing them for a trip or two I found them tight even though I spent 30-60 minutes wearing each in the store and has my feet measured. Unfortunately I live 2 hours away from a decent outdoor shop.

A buddy told me I could order multiple pairs from Zappos and once they where not worn outside I could return them and Zappo's would cover postage, I plan to wear them around the house and do some stair work to see if they fit.

I was going to order a couple pairs of Mids and trial runners so I am looking for some recommendations.

Cheers,

Stephen

you might want to try running warehouse- that way you can actually wear them outside as they have a 90 day no hassle return :)

fit is everything, I can suggest a shoe, but if doesn't fit, doesn't matter how good it is

there are a plethora of trail runners to choose from- Inov8 and Montrail are popular, as is La Sportiva, Brooks and New Balance, just to name a few

I have had excellent experience with http://www.runningwarehouse.com. 2 day shipping in most instances.

Several vendors provide the free return shipping. Some have better selections than others, or different lines carried. Dont hesitate to go with the one with the lowest prices on what you want.

Thanks MB,

Free returns is something I am not used to in Europe.

you mentioned the shoes were too tight, is your foot a little wider than normal? need more toe room?

if the answer is yes, check the Sabino Trail out (from Montrail) it has a nice roomy toe box that I don't get from other shoes

It is possible they are wider than normal, I normally take a US 12-13 depending on brand so have fairly big feet.

Last pair I bought where Montrail Masochists 2, they felt fine for a couple of weeks but started getting serious toe bang
On very steep downhill hikes.

Oh, and the sole started to come of the Masochists, Montrail will replace them.

I ordered a set of Masochists as I was told they were built on the same last as the Sabino and I wanted to try something a little lighter, as soon as I put them on I could tell they were too tight in the toes- sent them back for another pair of Sabinos :)

very good :) I've used them off trail pretty extensively in the Crazies and Beartooth's, I also used them on our R2R2R run in the Grand Canyon where we encountered about every trail condition from sand to a foot of snow

I use them for trail running and hiking, I'm on my fourth pair, retired three pairs w/ ~ 500 miles each

I visited w/ a guy at Montrail last week and he encouraged me to try the Badrocks- a bit lighter than the Sabino and he assured me it had a roomy toe box, so I might give them a try

Oh dear me, we must have covered this a dozen times at least.
You feet WILL swell at least a 1/2 size when you are out on the trail. So what fits in the shop will be tight in the field. Measure for both size AND width. Do not compromise on width at all, AND go up at least 1/2 a size from what the shop measurement says. Be prepared to go up a bit more if needed.

Cheers
PS: yeah, some need to go up a full size.

Hi Roger,

I did that with the last pair I got and still had issues with them after a while, I say I need to go a size up over what the shop recommndeds.

Cheers,

Stephen

Hi Stephen

OK, you got squooshy feet!

Yeah, happens, which is why I did say feet can swell 'at least 1/2 size'.
