Not really a gear review, just a report. I ran into colder nights than expected in the Eagle Cap Wilderness Area (Wallowa Mountains, N.E. Oregon, US). I don't have a thermometer but another camper said she registered 27F on a couple nights in the same Lake Basin.
I brought what I considered my summerweight sleeping tack: an Exped Synmat 7 UL mattress (S size), my new Nunatak Arc Alpinist quilt, a Nunatak down balaclava (in matching stunning brick red), and a tarp for overhead.
I did wear all my clothes to bed. I did have to cinch the top of the quilt around my neck, but I slept warmly and comfortably. I got no complaints except for the usual dealing with all that tack when turning over (the body would turn over, the balaclava not so much, blocking my face, causing grumblage and much pitching about to get things aligned).
I like how the straps on the quilt kept it, and me, atop the mattress as opposed to sleeping in a standard mummy bag slippin' and slidin' about on the pad.
Just in case anyone is thinking about using such a rig for their sleeping.
