Shires Contrail vs. Squall 2 packed size comparison?

Easy, the measurements given on the Tarptent site are accurate, 20″x4″ for the Squall and 14″x4″ for the Contrail. However this is a picture of the Contrail next to the Rainbow (same size as the Squall) the BD Lighthouse and a Bibler tent.The Bibler is about the average size for a standard double tent.

The 20″ packed length of the Squall is because of the size of the front strut, it can be removed, but it would be a bit of a pain to so all of the time.

I wasn't even thinking about the strut determining the stuff sack size. Is it really that big of a pain to remove? Anyone?

You just have given me an idea, thanks.
We will get Henry to change the sleeve design on the Squall and the Rainbow so that the strut can slide out more easily. From memory Henry was just saying the other day that he is bored and has nothing to do, so this will keep him busy for a few minutes.

Russell, I hate to disagree with our resident tarptent maven, but IMO, it's pretty easy to remove and install the strut once you've done it a few times. I just timed myself with my Virga 2. It took me three seconds to remove and twelve to install.

Franco, Henry may have to find another way to cure his boredom.

It takes me 17.5 to do the Rainbow, but granted I have only done that a few times. ( I have a bent pole in it now, after the standard and the carbon fiber version, no real reason to do that, it just looks different)

BTW, I have just remembered that every time I changed the strut I had the Rainbow set up, in tension, so yes it would be a lot quicker to do before hand.

My world record, 1 minute and 10 seconds, for setting up the Contrail still stands.

Yes, try this, Franco. Hold the strut inside the sleeve with a hand at each end. Place your right thumb and index finger on either side of the velcro sleeve with your middle finger at the point at which the sleeve bends back on itself. In one fluid motion, pull the velcro open while pinching the sleeve open with the middle finger against your thumb. Push the strut out with your left hand 'till it pops out the right end of the sleeve. Pull the strut out with your right hand.

We are about to start the world swimming championship here in Melbourne and so far they have only sold six thousand tickets, out of thirty thousands, to the synchronized swimming event. The problem is that most here think that they are not swimming but just going through the motions.

I cannot believe that no one has challenged my record. It was achieved the third time I put the shelter up. I still think that if I really try I can get it under 1 minute.

We could, but being an apostate by temperament, I wouldn't last too long. I could never stay in a Church that would have someone like me as a member.
