looks like over a thousand hits over at backpacking.net!
Anyone have one of these? They don't seem to come up in bag discussions/recommendations. Is quality an issue or is the center zip just too different? As a side-sleeper, the design looks interesting.
This gear is brand new and has olny been for sale for about 3-4 days.
The 1000 what ever hits are because of some issues with the Down in the sleeping bags.
Yes, I was foolish enough to get involved in a debate about real and perceived loft/thickness.
Essentially Bruce form Luxurylite was ridiculed for not putting the fill power of this bag. He was, in my opinion, honest enough to point out that he did not really know the so called "loft" of the down used in his bags, but that the total weight of 1lb 14oz gives a 4" "thickness" , and he has a picture to prove it.
At the age of 5 I discovered that there is no Father Christmas, from then on I made a point of questioning the veracity of various claims, including weights, sizes and any other so called exact measurement.
For some, manufacturers claims seems to be more important than the end result and this only encourages them to "optimize" their figures.
The thread, for me, has ended with a total misinterpretation from the same "expert" of a quote from Luxurylite.

imagine how i felt, after i came back to it a day later.
woops
You are a perfect example of my "shoot the alien" syndrome.
LOL
Hi Paulo
This was the comment from Goatee that got up MY goat, as we say here :
"Now the Luxury guy is a down expert? Look at this link on his site. This is 'prime' to take advantage of ignorant people. He is an insult to anyone reputable in the business. He should fill his bags with his own hot air and opinions.
Why Fill Power Does Not Matter
I wonder if LL had these made at all. Chinese bag makers have made bags like this for eons and eons.
At least he does not claim to invent the kind of sleeping bag zipper Eddie Bauer used 40 years ago. As usual, it's a big improvement over everything other makers are doing ( as in 2x LOL ). "
Bruce at Luxurylite is making available some very exciting and different products, not my cup of tea incidentally, and for some reason Goatee decided that LL are putting one across "ignorant" people for offering a 30oz bag with 4" of loft for $149. I think that it is actually a good deal (if you like the design) and could not explain that regardless what a manufacturer claims, it is still a 4" loft ,30OZ bag for $149….
Mind you for all I know Goatee could be a 16 year old.

Paulo
You have just provided me with my public transport entertainment. On my way to work and coming home I often tell my self some jokes, sometimes a new one pops up so I look like a total idiot laughing without being plugged in or having some other prop.
So I was standing there doing my Jell-O impression and pondering ,when suddenly I realized that there could have been some details missing from my "shoot the alien" comment. In this case the "alien" was the product, something different from Bruce.
One of my pet peeves is about the propensity by some to have a go at a person, product or idea because it's not what they are accustomed to.
I'm amazed at how many times I have shown a new approach or explained a different way of doing something only to be told that it will never work, before even given it a chance.
During a training session about five years ago ( I work for a camera shop) I stated that we should stop thinking that we sell tools to photographers when in fact we mostly sell toys to the masses. Most laughed at me.
Somehow I feel revenged when I spot a new camera first at Gizmo and a few days later at DPReview…
And BTW, in the little North Italian town where I was born, we had Spaniards as guests (collecting taxes) for about 300 years, so Paulo Pereira is neither a foreign nor exotic name to me.

that's a portuguese name, not spanish. where did you get 'exotic'? it's about as common as john smith, but thx ;)
Some folks like to debate just for the sake of debating. I think this was the case.
Blast. I was hoping to get some of my ancestors taxes back.
Come to think of it Paulo was not a clue but the only Pereira that I knew back home were from Brazil.
In spite of having a very silly French accent, think of the "silly kennighett" from the Monty Python Holy Grail, I have been taken for a Dutch,German,Scottish and here in Australia , Chinese or Vietnamese . Often though people think that I am Spanish because of my first name. I happen to be the only Darioli in Australia and doing my best to improve the gene pool by not procreating. Most of my ancestors did the same, hence the small number of people with this surname, but some had to spoil it for the rest.

I JUST POSTED A READER REVIEW OF THE LUXERYLITE V BAG WITH MY TWO CENTS WORTH ABOUT WHAT I LIKED (A LOT) AND DIDN'T LIKE (VERY LITTLE.
