The Whitney Trail is undergoing trail maintenance and not issuing walk-in permits. I was planning a Wednesday start. Food is at MTR. Dog is ready for the kennel. My gear is packed.

I could do Tuolumne to Whitney, which would be the easiest change.
Or I could go via Cottonwood Lakes, because I really like going south-to-north.

Anyone know the logistics of getting from Lone Pine to the Cottonwood Lakes TH?

Is it a good road?
With some cajoling and $$ would a local drive me up there?

Ideas?

Thanks.

Hey Greg,

The road up there from Lone Pine is good. I’m doing a trip from there to Whitney Portal in mid September and using the shuttle found here. He’s the cheapest I could find. You could also possibly convince a local to take you up. It’s about an hour from Lone Pine.

Glad I could help! If he’s booked, there is also this one, but he’s about 3 times as expensive. He charges a flat rate no matter the amount of passengers. Good luck!

Another thought is Shepard Pass.

I could loaf up and still be ahead of schedule.

Thanks again Jeff.
