A few months ago I tried packing with red thai curry.

It was stored in ordinary plastic bags.

Big mistake. By the end of three days ALL my food tasted like curry. Even if it was stored in another plastic bags.

So the odor went through TWO LAYERS of plastic!

It wasn't submerged in water or anything weird like that.

Now bears have a MUCH better sense of smell then humans do which makes me a bit more paranoid.

Do any of you pack ALL your food in OP bags?

I have everything in a bear can and its FAR from my camp but I still don't want any problems.

I must confess I am a horrible person. I put my food under my tarp and sleep next to it. Pity the bear tries to steal my food after I've been out a week!

Honestly though I would not worry much about it unless you are in grizzly country. Then I'd be a bit more careful. I DO take my food bag out of my pack at night. Last thing you want is a marmot chewing a hole in your $200 pack to eat 55 cents worth of candy bar.

I usually carry 2 – 9" x 10" OPSAKs. One for food items (dried sausage, sunrise bars, dehydrated mango, etc.) and another for garbage. Think of them as a glorified turkey bag. They're just the aLOKSAKs (Element gaurd bags) with an added thermally bonded "turkey bag/smellproof" layer. I keep only "loose food items" (read: non-freeze dried foods packs) and garbage in them. Everything else is just in the bear can with the OPSAKs. It's a good product…the aLOKSAKs too. I've put two bags (OPSAK and aLOKSAK) through my "non-gentle treatment" tests and they still don't have any holes and still seal just fine. I haven't been throwing them around, but I havn't been babying them.

All in all, I'm 99.9% positive they will fix your curry problem if they're recommending using them for "Soiled diapers".

HTH!
