For those that are looking to fully dry their Sawyer Squeeze, you need to buy the tube adapters sold for it (http://www.rei.com/product/837889/sawyer-inline-adapter-water-filter-connections), a cheap low volume air pump (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Aqua-Culture-5-15-Gallon-Single-Outlet-Aquarium-Air-Pump-1-ct/10532632) and a length of the $1.50 airline tubing they also sell at Walmart. About $14.40 in total around these parts.
After back flushing your filter vigorously and repeatedly, and doing the “flick and whip” draining method for to get most of the water out of the filter…
Attach one of the tubing adapters to the filter (I used the blue one/output side). I picked this side because it creates airflow in the same direction you back flush the filter and because you will need to be putting the filter up to your ear (best kept on the “dirty” side of the filter…keep reading, you’ll see what I’m talking about). Hook a length of air hose up to the air pump. On the other end of the tubing not yet connected to anything, make about a 2mm split in the length of one side of the airline. This will allow you to finagle the airline tubing onto the slightly larger Sawyer Squeeze Tube adapter. This may take a little patience and will just barely cover the input when on. I did do this with silicone airline and not the $1.50 lengths of (PVC?) airline they sell at Walmart…but should still work. Then simply turn on the air filter and let it sit running for about a week. If you hold the input/dirty end of the filter up against your ear while the pump is running, you will hear crackly bubble pops, when you stop hearing these from the filter, the filter should be dry.
Give it a try! I believe it actually works in drying the filter.
