A couple years ago I got a ChicoBag Day Pack to try out. I ran across a newer version today and I noticed that they have re-worked the side pockets and, IMHO, making it a much more viable alternative for a day pack for light loads.

The bag is rated at 15 liters and weighs 5.5oz with the tags and mini-carabiner. It has a self-stowing pocket and the closure for the main compartment is accomplished by running the shoulder straps through webbing runners sewn along the top edge. The shoulder straps are ~2.5" wide 3D mesh sewn to the ripstop fabric and have runners down the front to aid adding an optional sternum strap. There is a horizontal daisy chain near the bottom, which I assume is to hang a light, The bootom panel is a heavier fabric to withstand abrasion. There is an accessory loop on the upper right near the top of the shoulder strap. The water bottle pockets are stretch mesh with the same fabric on the bottom as used with the bottom panel of the pack body. The pockets will easily handle a large one liter bottle. The top of the pockets are formed by crossing the sides over. This is a neat design and could add to any packet with water bottle pockets. The pocket shape should be very good for using one liter Platypus bottles.

I see that ChicoBag is making a more conventional looking Travel Pack that looks very interesting, with a top lid line that immediately reminded me of a GoLite Ion. They are making a messenger bag too, with the same side pockets as the Day Pack. I'd love to take a look at them. Retail is $24-$30.

I think this pack has potential as a stuff sack with the multiple use option of using it as a day bag from a base camp, or as a travel day bag. It should be just enough for water, a spare layer, snacks and essentials.

The pack shown for comparison in the last photo is an older REI Flash 18.

That does not look comfortable, unless all you were carrying was a down quilt… It looks like a basketball.

It is meant as a market bag. I would keep things to around 5-6 pounds.
