When I hike in sunny hot places, I like to hike early, take a siesta and then hike again, after the intense sunshine. I am looking for recommendations on a tarp that will work well as a shelter, offer good UV protection and create good shade. My grey silnylon doesn't do so well in intense sun.
I'd appreciate any recommendations, or please point me to relevant threads. Mylar??

I've used mine as a dining/lounging shelter on sunny hot Sierra afternoons. I know it's silnylon, but it's dark in color. MLD has the dog tarp, maybe they'd make one in a darker cuben for you. It's a great size but gray silnylon is probably not going to work for you. Maybe you could also rig an umbrella to work for your head and face.
