Im planning on a few long backpacking trips this late spring/summer in the 'dacks and am already fretting over my clothing choices. What would be the most versatile lightweight clothing system for backpacking? I was thinking wind shirt micropuff vest combination. Any suggestions?

That should be good. I use the same except sometimes opt to take my Montbell UL Down Inner Jacket for a little more warmth if temps will be around freezing.

I'm not sure what temp range you expect, but for temps down to freezing I add a Montane Aero windshirt over my base-layer and swap the windshirt for a Patagonia Micropuff pull-over in camp. If you're expecting temps to be above freezing I think a vest+windshirt combo would work fine.
