A 67-year-old experienced backpacker who has been on the Pacific Crest Trail since March has gone missing.

Stephen McGuire of Washington state was last seen on May 18 by another hiker who was concerned that McGuire looked tired and was low on food.

Officials ask anyone who’s hiked between Mt. Whitney and Reds Meadow since May 10, whether you’ve seen McGuire or not, to call 888-653-0009.

Aw crud, forgot about the first-post-no-cleanup bug. Still mostly readable, follow the news story link for another photo and more details.

The Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks facebook page posted an update that he has been found and is in good shape.

“We’re happy to report that missing hiker Stephen McGuire has been located. Though he’s tired, he’s in good health. His progress along his route was delayed by winter storms. When contacted, he asked us to pass on his appreciation for the rescue efforts. He’d like to recognize the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, Devil’s Postpile National Monument, Inyo National Forest, and El Dorado National Forest’s Carson Pass Information Center.”

Glad he’s OK.   Wish he would have carried a PLB with a “OK but will be late” pre-set message.
