Hi All,

First post, go easy. I won an auction for a Mountainsmith ‘Wisp’ bag on ebay recently. What came in the mail was a ‘Vision’ bag, long. Wisp weighs about 13 oz less than the Vision, and Mr. Ebay doesn’t have any more wisps to exchange.

I’d still like to get down into the 1lb 1/2 range for this bag, any suggestions on how to get there?

I’m thinking of
* asking around here about a trade for a used Wisp Marmot Helium or similar.
* Taking the whole thing down to Nunatak and having them shorten it for me (and maybe add a zipper on the foot).
* Just going camping later in the season and being happy w/ the bag.

Advice?

Hi Dave:

Welcome to the Forum.

If your heart is set on a lightweight 1.5 lbs. bag, then the Vision is wrong for you. Even worse than the heavier weight, you may well sleep cold in a bag that’s too big/long for you. Two options come to mind:

1. Return the bag and insist on a full refund — including your shipping cost.

2. Put the bag on Ebay and see if you can make a small profit (the Vision is a bit more expensive than the Wisp).

Why keep a bag that’s not the temp rating, weight or size that you really want? Keep looking – Mountainsmith, Mountain Hardwear, Western Mountaineering, Montbell, and others all have models that fit the above criteria.
