I'm planning to do the 4 pass loop in the Maroon Bells Wilderness the first week of September. I've got most of my gear list completed, but I'm having a tough time choosing between a few items and I was hoping to get some opinions. My current sleeping setup is: Duomid, RevX 30* Quilt (w/overfill) and Synmat UL7. I tend to sleep on the warm side. I'm expecting temperatures to be in the 40s at bedtime, and 30s at the coldest part of the night/morning. I'll be wearing socks and Cap 2 bottoms for my lower-half layer. I'll also have a Patagonia Wool 2 LS 1/4 zip that I'll wear while hiking. I'd prefer not sleep in it, but I will have it as an additional layer if necessary.

Given my sleeping setup, what do you think is the most versatile combination of the following items that would be good for both sleeping and around camp? My selections are marked with an (*). Feel free to suggest items not listed here. I still have a month before I leave, so there's still time to pick up any last-minute items if need be.

Insulation:
Stoic Hadron Anorak (hooded, partial zip {actually, partial snap} )
Montbell UL Down Jacket (full zip, no hood)*

Baselayer:
Ibex Hooded Indie (195g/m^2 merino)*
Smartwool Microweight LS (150g/m^2 merino)
Icebreaker SS (150g/m^2 merino)

Head wear:
Smartwool beanie*
Mountain Hardwear Polartech balaclava

Thanks!

I second eric's recommendation although the beanie is redundant if you wear the indie.Thats a fun loop. Enjoy!

Thanks for the input!

Serge – how have the bugs been out in Colorado so far this summer?

I'm up in the indian peaks a couple times a week & bugs aren't bad at all. I did the 4 passes loop two years ago in sepember and it was fine. I bring a light headnet anyway since I use a tarp. Cheers.
