Stoic Somnus 30 Sleeping Bag vs. Adrenaline 800 Fill 3-Season Mummy

I own the Stoic Somnus 30 bag, and personally can't get used to the half-zipper. I've only slept in it a few nights, but I found it difficult to shimmy down into due to the zipper being only half-length (and on the top, rather than the side). I'm not sure if it was my height (6'4"), the fact that I was inside a bivy while trying to get in the bag, or both, but I just couldn't get used to it. It seemed like a lot of effort to get in and out.

Also, I'm a warm sleeper and when I get too warm I like to stick a leg out of my sleeping bag to cool off. This was difficult to do with the Somnus.

Probably would be OK if I wasn't inside a bivy and had more room to manage getting in/out of the bag.

The bag itself is quite nice though and it's unfortunate that I'm not compatible with it.

I just got the Sommnus 30 (long) and i love it. It weighs 1.65 pounds in a sil-nylon water resistant stuff sack that i bought. The cheaper Vamp 30 weighs in at 2.2 pounds.

Compared to my Vamp 30 it has way more loft, 850 fill makes it puff up nice, whereas the vamp was flat and had empty down spots.

It has pertex quantum instead of microlight, which has DWR. The fabric is also thinner allowing it to loft up nicer.

I was able to test it out in a few 40 degree nights, I ended up draping it over me like a quilt and had my feet inside the footbox because i was too hot. (neo air trekker pad). Seems warmer than the Vamp 30.

The downside: The center half zip. I would probably prefer a half side zip but you can easily just twist the bag to the side.

This isnt really a downfall, because the half zip saves weight and also allows the bottom portion of the bag to loft up more wheareas a zipper compressed the down and lets in cold air.

Nice bang for your buck especially if on sale at %30 off.

I suspect that the GoLite is overkill for the temps you typically find in Florida. That thing is rated to 0F. I live in CO and don't even feel like I need a 0F bag. If you decide that you want that insurance, the GoLite is a pretty nice option.

I really like my Somnus 30, having spent about a dozen nights in it so far. The half zipper presents some benefits, as well as limitations, as mentioned above.
I think the Stoic's temp rating is pretty accurate, and with the addition of a down sweater and a bottle of warm water in a sock, I'd be ready for the low/mid 20's.
