Tent Protection

Bear canisters are all different. Some have smooth plastic edges. Some have metal edges.

Why do you need a bag to protect the tent from the canister edges? At most, a one square foot piece of plastic would do the trick. Otherwise, stick a piece of clothing between the two and you're done.

If you use a footprint, you could wrap that around the tent. I have carried a square of Tyvek to use as a doormat and something like that would make good armor. I used mine to wrap my tent stakes to protect my other gear from dirt and damage.

Just never hiked super long with a bear can, and don't really want an "Oops!" moment to happen on my upcoming "test trip" or my actual trip in the future. I've heard of other having their can wear holes in their tent and just don't want the same to happen to me since I will be packing the tent up against it as it's the only convenient (balanced) space for it.

I will keep pondering your "multipurpose another item" idea further. Currently my clothes will be in a waterproof cuben fiber eVent bag. Is Tyvek super tough? Could I make a Tyvek bag? Also, can one purchase Tyvek in small amounts from Home Depot of similar places?

I kinda like the Tyvek doormat idea, as I could use it as a wrap for the tent, doormat and perhaps also as a sort of awning for the Fly Creek UL 2's non-existent door overhang (should I be tent-bound in rain).

Tyvek is pretty tough stuff. I would just roll it up and get the multiple use, but you could make a bag from it. Washing it a couple times will take some of the stiffness out. Come to think if it, you might be able to use a Tyvek shipping envelope.

A trash compactor bag would make pretty good armor for cheap and easy too. Cut and tape to suit.

If bear canister has a sharp corner, put a piece of duct tape over it

I have a Bear Vault. Don't use it very much. I can't see how it would put hole in anything.

Last year I was carrying a Bearikade Expedition canister and a BA Copper Spur 2 tent (for 2 of us), in a Catalyst pack. Once the canister was in, my deflated Prolite went on one side and the tent body was stuffed on the other (loose,not in a sac). The fly was stuffed on top of and around the edges of the can. It did fine for a 9 day trip. Maybe the Copper Spur is thicker material than the Fly Creek?

I just use the sack that came with my Moment. Holds tent, pole & stakes. But the next beat thing is use your groundsheet.
