I just saw an ad for the Thermarest LuxuryLite cot. Did Thermarest purchase the design? Did the patent run out?

I bought my LuxuryLite cot in July 2005. It weighs 968g (34.15oz) trail weight with 2 extra bows (for my extra weight) and an old Thermarest stuff sack. This cot provides the best sleep that I've ever had on the trail and 7 years later, is in great condition.

The new "lightweight" mesh cot from Thermarest specs out at 3lb 12oz (?). What does anyone know about this "new" development?

Thank you, Eric, for that good report on one of the first generation LuxuryLite Cots. Cascade Designs purchased the patent and manufacturing rights for the LuxuryLite cots early this year. Making and selling thousands of cots each year was taking ALL our time. We had 18 dealers, Thermarest has over 3,000 dealers around the world. So the availability should go way up. The cots are being manufactured in Seattle right now. My wife and I will still will be running our website and selling our other products plus we are now an authorized Thermarest dealer. We are recruiting family members to do order fulfillment so we can actually leave the house for more than a day and go camping again. And I will now have time to perfect the 1 pound ExtremeLite cot now being tested on the PCT by our son Daniel.

I love my LuxuryLite cot, but it is usually just used for Scout and car camping. At 3# (first gen) I can't justify taking it with on a weekend BP trip since it is heavier than each of my 'Top 3'. A 1# cot might just put it back in my backpacking kit. Cool
