Get the Nikwax specialty soaps. Many traditional "soaps" have actually turned into detergents and will jack up your gear's natural oils (for wool and down) or will ruin a DWR treatment (as in your Makalu).
I've gotten tired of worrying about gear so I paid the extra cash for the Nikwax stuff and just hand wash all my gear as necessary. A bit more time and money but MUCH more peace of mind about taking care of expensive gear!
I would use the Nikwax Tech Wash since it helps preserve the existing DWR of your rain jackets. If the water beading of your jackets isn't up to snuff you can use one of their DWR sprays (wax based and won't last as long but eco-friendly) or a fluorcarbon based DWR which will last a lot longer but with less green karma.
REI's article on DWRs and rainwear care is actually REALLY good.
