I am just getting serious about backpacking. I have a son who is 9 and seems eager to go with me. So we have bought some new gear this year, trying to go as light was we can, so we can have more fun!!!
Check out my list and let me know how I can save from here.

a few comments. Generally a good looking list,quite a few items left out shoes, knife and a repair kit etc. Here we go:
Undies Halve weight – try exped, sooo comfy and light
Rain Jacket: Halve weight – look at pertex equilibrium, event or WPB cuben
L/S Shirt Reduce weight – look at Rab Aeon
Extra shirt Rab aeon or something similar
Beanie Try zpacks beanie or black rock
Jetboil Only if you need, maybe replace with soda stove
Filter Crazy Heavy!! Look at Sawyer filters
Nalgene Replace with disposable water bottles (2 for peace of mind)
Shelter Plenty of lighter options, but those 2 are good
Sleeping Great looking set up
Toiletries Quite a few items left out: repair kit, knife etc
