In US, anyone know how TSA is about titanium pot/alcohol stoves with carry on?

I will be bringing a checked bag, but I'd like to put as little valuable stuff in it as possible due to possibility of lost luggage, but I don't want the tsa people to decide that my tent poles are a possible weapon, or the pot some weird bomb mixing device. The alcohol stove obviously is a little bomb, or could be in their eyes.

Anyone know this from recent, this year, personal experience?

I'll already be putting trekking poles, knife, stakes, in checkin.

What about food, bags, etc? Security varies so widely it's hard to really know what they will worry about and what not, the ideal is from my carry on to attract no searches and attention to speed up my trip, I can usually do this with no problem but never tried it with backpacking gear.

My pack itself fits basically the carry on size limits, has carbon fiber etc frame, so shouldn't be any problems with it per se.

thanks for input,

Let me see if I can summarize the recent discussions we've had here.

Put the backpack into a plastic bag or else thin duffle bag to protect it a little. Assume that TSA will x-ray it. However, they are only looking for bomb-related things, so don't worry about most of your stuff. Also, place your poles into a cardboard tube and stick that into the plastic bag or else duffle bag since you generally can't take those into the cabin. Do not lock the duffle bag, but twist something colorful into the zipper so that you can tell if it has been opened.

Metal cook pots are not of much interest to TSA. When viewed two-dimensionally, it could be interesting, but they can view it in three dimensions, so it should not raise a stink. Knives and all that are not of much interest when they are checked in baggage. Food is of zero interest.

You probably need to avoid all fuels, alcohol, and Esbit.

I can carry the backpack on, it fits the dimensions, barely, so I can bring most of my stuff in that as carry on. If I pull out the carbon frame it definitely fits as carry on, but I've never had them look at my carry on stuff re sizing it.

So tent poles need to be checked, ok.

I got a decent check in bag, it has a frame etc, so I don't have to really worry about stuff in there re it getting dinged up or bent, and I'm going for other reasons so this isn't a backpacking only trip, ie, I will have normal stuff with me too, so extra luggage is fine.

I'm not fond of the notion of wrapping pack in plastic, that would trust TSA people to properly open it if they felt like it, I've had stuff closely examined by them because it didn't scan right, and I was very glad I was physically there to oversee them, let me tell you.

I was planning on buying alcohol there, so no worries on that, I'll just leave it there for next time, if there is a next time.
